Nakusp Secondary School sent 21 athletes to compete with 300 of BC's best boarders and skiers in the BC High School Alpine Provincials . The event took place at Panorama Resort from Feb. 26 to 28.

The Girls' Ski Team, comprised of Jaimee Hamling, Kristin Likness, Kristen Sokoloski, Sam Toering, Sara Varga, and Liz Waterfield, placed 6th overall, pulling out of 8th place after the first day of racing. The Boys' Ski Team, Dane Olsen, Bryar McQuair, Brent Wanstall, Robyn Crosby-Bone, and Cameron Carruthers, also placed 6th.

The Girls' Snowboard Team, Tierre Bekker, Lara Eigelshoven, Shannon Fulmore, Chelsea Groffen, Jesse McDonald, and Carly Thorp rode to success and placed an amazing 2nd out of 13 teams. The Boys' Snowboard Team came in 13th overall. Luke Andrews, Justin Detta, Connor McKee, and Alex Thorp continued to display the outstanding sportsmanship that Nakusp is known for.

The fastest 8 individuals in British Columbia are recognized in each discipline, and our athletes topped the list. Jesse McDonald came 1st in her category, Carly Thorp placed 4th in hers, and Alex Thorp pulled himself from 3rd after the first day’s race to place 1st. LESS student, Amber Brown-Dahl, competed as an individual and placed 6th.

Allison Alder, who travelled with the team, commented that they are "amazing athletes who showed excellent sportsmanship. The kids are exceptional ambassadors for Nakusp, with a completely amazing team spirit. They were utterly a joy to ski and ride with, travel with, and coach!"

The BCSA Provincial Snowboard Cross was held March 5th at Big White. Although the day was cold, the Summit Lake Racers were there in force. Alex Marshall placed 3rd in the amateur men 19+. Jessica Hogg placed 4th in the amateur women 19+. Alex Thorp placed 3rd in the amateur men 13-14. Jesse McDonald placed 5th in the FIS pro women, while Carly Thorp placed 8th in the same category.
